In its bid to walk the talk in recognising the importance of enhancing the quality of experience of all categories of telecom consumers, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has gifted the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) with some ICT tools.

Fifty sets of HP laptops were donated to the NCPWD by the NCC in Abuja on Tuesday. Dr. Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC presented the gifts during a courtesy visit to the NCPWD headquarters in Abuja.

The NCC boss, represented by a Deputy Director, Mr. Tijani Munguno, said the procurement of ICT equipment was based on the NCC’s belief that persons with disabilities (PWDs) needed equipment.

He said that these tools will improve the communication skills of disabled people so that they can compete effectively in the ICT market. – Advertisement –

According to Maida, the equipment will not only increase the capacity of the PWD system but will also help the commission in its determination to fulfil its mandate.

” We understand that in today’s world, access to digital technology is essential for efficient and effective production.

“We believe we can make a significant impact on the disability community with laptops,” he said.

NCPWD Executive Secretary Dr. James Lalu thanked the NCC delegation for their support and assistance to people with disabilities, even as he expressed willingness to cooperate with NCC to improve communication skills and knowledge of people with disabilities.

Lalu presented National Accessibility Manuals to the delegation to enable NCC to get acquainted with the accessibility standard guidelines in their various offices.
