Active mobile subscriptions in Nigeria rose to 219.7 million at the end of February 2024, according to the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC).

The figure was 224.4 million in December 2023 but plunged to 218 million in January 2024 due to NCC directive on NIN-SIM linkage when about six million lines were lost by operators.

According to the NCC, the two dominant operators, MTN and Airtel, still maintained their lead.

MTN still led the pack with 80, 895,695 active lines in February from 79,784,880 in January, while Airtel rose to 63,036,167 in February from 62,601, 992 in January.

Globacom also recorded a slight increase in subscriptions from 61, 926,445 to 62, 103, 201, while 9mobile plunged from 13, 646,117 to 12, 799, 694 in January.

The NCC also recorded increased teledensity to 101.47 percent in February, from 100.75 per cent in January.

Teledensity is calculated based on the Nigerian Population Commission’s projected population figure of 216 million from September 2023 (GBN)
